Kirk Hensler was raised in metro Detroit on a steady diet of meat, potatoes and team sports. As a competitive athlete, he relied on his speed, power and dominant attitude to excel. Years later, when he took up martial arts, he was tossed around a sweaty dojo for months by various women and children. One day, while horizontal on the mat, he had the profound realization that their patience and finesse quietly trumped his strength and aggression. This led to an exploration of ancient Eastern philosophies, which, in turn, led Kirk to Taiwan, where he taught English, studied martial arts and ate a lot of delicious and strange street food. The calm and patient Eastern lifestyle was contagious and comforting, and when Kirk returned to the US, he began applying what he'd learned to his Western, urban life and to his career as a personal trainer and martial arts instructor.

Kirk is a dedicated, eco-friendly human, with a joyful passion for yoga, surfing, hiking, and communicating. It is his firm belief that experience, science, research, and a little bit of intuition can reach a lot of people.

Helen started practicing yoga as a way of balancing out the craziness of life and now can't imagine going a day without it. After spending most of her life as a dancer, she was initially drawn to yoga by the physical benefits of the practice and the similarities to dance but quickly found herself returning for the total sense of calm and wellbeing that yoga delivers. Helen's goal is to help her students find peace and balance in their own lives through yoga. She teaches a fun and challenging vinyasa flow class, focusing on breath and alignment and incorporating creative sequences and adjustments to address each student's personal focus and goals. Sarah Clark hales from the splendor of New York City streets. NYC was the place where she fell in deeply in love with the practice, went on to teach tons of Yoga (mostly at OM Yoga Center, New York University, and Dance New Amsterdam), and danced her face off in many a modern dance company. But after six plus years of some serious East Coast urban grind, it was time for the next big adventure on the West Coast. She arrived to San Diego and a whole new way of being on the 4th of July, 2011.

Sarah is smitten by the Yoga practice and feels tremendous gratitude for the chance to share its profound benefits with her students. Her classes employ thoughtful sequencing, rich with physical precision and nuance, while creating an environment that is compassionate, spacious, and full of light-hearted curiosity. While empowering students through very physical embodiment, Sarah aims that students have a look at their minds, encouraging practitioners to observe all of their layers during their practice, so that they might more honestly infuse their practice (read:life) with their deepest values over time.

JONATHAN PATRIARCA

Originally from Long Beach, California, Jonathan worked as a nurse for seven years specializing in pediatric bone marrow transplant and oncology. While working as a licensed massage therapist he was inspired to practice and study yoga. He became a certified instructor at White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara. He then taught vinyasa flow yoga classes in San Diego.

During his first trip to India in 2004 he aimed to deepen his practice, which included studying Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Pattabi Jois in Mysore. Even with regular practice Jonathan found it difficult to increase his flexibility and strength. He remained open to other styles of yoga, but did not find an asana practice that helped him to improve to an advanced level. On his next trip to India he studied different styles of yoga including Iyengar yoga and Hatha yoga.
